The Liberty Carbon Harness: Will it be the windsurfing product of the year?

The latest and hottest innovation from the world of windsurf racing is the Liberty carbon harness. Since this year, it has been giving top iQ foilers and PWA windsurfers a decisive advantage. We are the first shop in Germany and the Netherlands to stock it and have the honor of importing it and ensuring its availability. This should make the harness, which originates from Japan, accessible to the wider market.

What makes the Liberty harness unique?

The harness is not fundamentally revolutionary. It simply combines the best of two worlds: the seat harness and the hip harness.

The advantages of the seat harness are "more power" and "no slipping up from the harness." In theory, this allows you to ride faster and experience less back pain. In practice, the leg straps often pinch your "balls" and the very low-seated hook means you lose a lot of control and freedom.

The advantages of the hip harness are maximum mobility and great control, as the hook is positioned higher up. The biggest disadvantage here is the greater strain on the back and the harness riding up, which puts even more strain on the back and reduces power transfer.

The Liberty carbon harness combines the advantages of both Harnesses and minimizes the impact of the disadvantages. The harness is designed for maximum performance and the compromises are minimal.

Simply put, it is a high-quality hip harness with carbon reinforcement in the back area. This hip harness is complemented by a finely tuned pad that covers half of the windsurfer's buttocks, keeping the harness in the best position. Thanks to the stronger material in the "seat area," there is no need for straps around the legs.

Another feature is two extra straps that secure the harness hook. With normal harnesses, the hook always tilts towards the Boom, causing the straps to loosen and power to be lost. This problem has also been solved, resulting in more power and minimal changes in power transmission during the session. The straps that secure the hook also secure the overlap at the bottom of the harness.

For freeriders, freeracers, and racers, the harness offers hardly any disadvantages. It just takes some getting used to because the hook sits a little lower than with a hip harness, giving you more power. Especially because it holds its position. It can be ridden in different positions, so everyone has to find out for themselves whether they want to ride it very low or slightly higher.

The harness is not suitable for wave riders and freestylers. Even though there are no straps around the legs, freedom of movement is minimally restricted. This is not an issue for freeriders and freeracers, but it is for turns, jumps, and tricks. The harness can also slip easily during a water start, just like a hip harness.
