We present the CLAMCLEAT® Auto-Release Racing Mini CL257
Don’t damage your rudder blade! The Clamcleat® CL257 Auto-Release Cleat offers the cleanest and best solution to the problem of how to secure a rudder blade while still allowing it to automatically flip up if it hits the bottom or a solid obstacle in the water. The cleat holds lines securely but releases them immediately when an overload occurs.
After releasing, it can be easily reset in just a few seconds—simply press the cleat back down into its base. The CL257 is equipped with an adjustable cam, allowing you to tailor the release force to your boat and the prevailing conditions. The cam is adjusted so that the rudder blade reliably remains down even under maximum load while sailing. At the same time, this setting ensures that as little stress as possible is placed on the rudder in the event of an impact.
The CL257 can be mounted on nearly all retractable tiller systems and is also suitable for protecting centerboards. Installation instructions are included with every CL257 and are also available in the download section. The illustrations above show various rigging options, e.g., with a 2:1 ratio or for different line thicknesses.
If you lose the cam, a replacement kit is available: CL257UG.
A standard clamp of the same size as the CL257 is the CL222.
If you want a fairlead, check out the CL211 Mk2.
