Vitor Marcal, a lifeguard on the North Shore and one of the first foilers 18 years ago when Laird and a few others first tested it, had asked me to build him a foil board with low drag when the board comes off the foil.

The first thing I could think of that landed well on the water was a seaplane. So I did a little research and shaped him a board with an underwater hull similar to a seaplane, and it worked great for him at the time. Now, almost 20 years later, I have revived this shape for the wing board models.

These boards not only guide the rider back onto the foil with little or no drag when they touch down, but they also lift off much easier and faster. This unique bottom shape, together with the rails beveled at the right angle, provides very little drag and extra lift as soon as the board has a little forward movement.

I don't do gimmicks with my shapes. All my designs and shapes are proven, hydrodynamic marvels.
